Kate Petty - Paintings

Artist Reception – Saturday, September 24th 5 to 8pm

In my work I explore themes of transition and metamorphosis.

I am drawn to organic shapes and processes but like structure and boundaries. My hope is to convey a kind of meaningful chaos where meticulousness meets uninhibited expression.
Often my paintings reflect landscapes, emotional and otherwise, because the environment is so immediate and important for me. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest,
I feel deeply rooted here and grounded in this landscape, yet I have an intense restlessness to explore the unknown.
While the natural world informs imagery, colors, and texture for me, feeling connected to the celestial and primordial worlds is what ultimately inspires me.

Petty holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from The Evergreen State College with an emphasis in Transpersonal and Depth Psychologies and Expressive Arts. A gifted astrologer, Petty is interested in contemplating our essential nature, psyche, soul - and thinks about the astrological factors at play in these expressions.

Her favorite work outside painting is as a volunteer providing confidential emotional support to women living in prison.

Kate lives and works in West Seattle.
